I don’t have a gym membership.
It’s too cold to run outside.
I don’t have time to exercise.
I’m too tired….
Four excuses none of which I can actually justify because in 2015 I managed to find time to train for six months and run a marathon whilst working full time and doing a three hour round-trip commute, so I know this is a lot of old poppycock.
You don’t need a gym membership.
Put a jumper on.
Stop reading celebrity gossip columns on the sofa.
You might be tired but, come on wuss, you’re not that tired.
Post marathon I’ve hardly done any exercise but this month, it being my month dedicated to effort, I am shunning excuses in favour of action.
This should theoretically be easy as exercise has never been more accessible. You don’t even need to leave your house, have any fancy equipment or even have that much time. The choice is so varied and it is only a few clicks away. You can have a personal trainer in your living room!
There is also no excuse for me not to make an effort and dig out my trainers this month (running outdoors is my favourite exercise and when the weather is like how it was today then it’s a dream).
However, if you aren’t the running type (sometimes I just don’t fancy it) or just want to mix it up then these fit, fit people are literally handing you your health on a plate. It is right there for the taking from the warmth of your own lounge (and some of them you don’t even need trainers).
Tone It Up Girls
Say hello to Karena and Katrina, the Tone It Up Girls.
If you are wanting to tone up for bikini season or for your wedding or for any other reason then this perky, sunkissed, beach based duo are the two for you. They even put beauty tutorials up on their website showing you how to create the perfect tousled waves.
I have done Mary Helen Bowers’ ballet workouts a fair few times hoping to stretch my short legs a few inches. In the ones I have done I have barely moved – leg raises, small circles. I was even lying on the floor. It sounds like hardly anything but it. is. a. killer.
The Body Coach
High Intensity Interval Training is the order of the day from the sparkly eyed, curly haired homme du jour, Joe Wickes. I thought I was pretty fit from running and then I realised whilst doing his alleged “beginner” HIIT training (intense shorts bursts of effective sprint training) that I was not fit in that way at all.
His ladder workout is something else – there’s a 40 second plank a the end (if you can manage it…).
You will need water and lots of it and probably a lie down after…
If you do any online workouts I’d love to hear from you – I am always looking to try a new one!
