Whilst most are quick to lament the passing of summer, I have alway preferred the cool, crisp, bright mornings of Autumn to hazy summer days. Add in cosy afternoons wrapped up in thick woollen knits, bracing walks in the fresh air and the smells of log fires and bonfires and I am in heaven
Recently I have been reading about the Danish phenomenon of Hygge (which I like to pronounce higgy but is actually pronounced hoo-gah).
Essentially it equates to living in a state of contented cosiness and, reading about it, I think that Hygge and Autumn go hand in hand.
Both inadvertently lend themselves towards plush furnishings, I like to think a good bit of tartan and velour, and indulgence (whether that be through pastries and hot chocolate or pampering).
It also means looking after yourself; relaxation, woollen throws and open fires (and in their absence a Jo Loves Log Fires candle (on a tangent Jo’s (as in Jo Malone – the company Jo Malone was bought by Estée Lauder a number of years ago and this is her new company) Desert Island Disc is captivating).
Think also low lighting, reading and downtime. Like preparing for hibernation!
It’s a little bit decadent, luxuriant and opulent.
Autumn to me is a time to snuggle down and enjoy being cosy at home. Indulging myself with a thick wedge of cake (unfortunately the cake bit goes completely against The Body Coach 90 day plan which I am following and which you can read more about here so I am having to content myself with a smoothie or a cup of tea).
Here are my favourite Autumn/Hygge buys:
